January 26, INVASION DAY Vancouver

In a parallel event based at the Blue Cabin in False Creek in Vancouver, Three local Indigenous artists performed in solidarity with Indigenous peoples in Australia who were marching during Invasion day.


Jeneen Frei Njootli (Vuntut Gwitchen), Christie Lee Charles (Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh), and Senaqwila Wyss (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw - Squamish Nation, Tsimshian, Sto:lo, Hawaiian and Swiss) each performed a song that vibrated across the waters of False Creek. Also part of this special event, Future is Floating Artist, Claire G. Coleman's, We Are Water, spoken word performance, originally performed on the Mari Nawi in Sydney Harbour on the 22nd of January, was rebroadcast in False Creek.


The sound from this Vancouver set of performances was recorded and subsequently re-broadcast across the waters of the creek over seven days at dawn in January and February, 2020. (In honour of seven past generations and seven future generations). An excerpt of these performances can be heard below.
